TIPS & ADVICE

Dating Tips

  • First Impressions count so make sure you look your best and are well groomed.
  • Show an interest in your date after all he or she has come to meet YOU!
  • Ask questions and LISTEN to the answers.
  • Try to keep the conversation light; no one wants to hear about money problems or your dying aunt on the first date!
  • Smile a lot – it’s encouraging and contagious.
  • If you are interested hold eye contact as much as possible, it’s the best way to connect with someone and to show you are interested.
  • Consider the body language going on between the two of you.  If your date is leaning in then he/she is interested, if they are looking around the room or yawning its not a good sign.
  • Mirroring each other’s body language is a great sign it shows you are in tune with each other and that there is some mutual attraction going on.
  • If you are interested then don’t sit with your arms crossed, be relaxed and open in your body language.
  • Be yourself as much as you can and act as you would if you were sitting with your best friend.  Your date wants to see the real you and it will allow him or her to do the same.

Conversation pointers

  • Find out some of the background on each other, where you went to school, where you grew up etc.
  • Ask each other what you like to do with your free time and evenings out.
  • Discover the type of holidays or sightseeing trips your date likes to go on.
  • Is there something you have in common like a hobby or a favourite type of cuisine?
  • How about cooking? Does your date like whipping up a great meal?
  • What’s your dates favourite movie? And then find out what he/she likes about the movie.
  • This could lead into a great conversation on role models and future aspirations.
  • Everyone likes to talk about themselves so when in doubt throw in a question or two.
